Thank you to those who joined us at the UAGC Summer Conference in June at Woods Cross High School! Our attendance continues to grow each year and we were fortunate to have many of our own Utah gifted teachers lead many of the breakout sessions with their research, best practices, and favorite programs. Our keynote speaker, Andi McNair, championed the “Genius Hour,” as a way to prioritize passion-based learning for our students, and further taught us how to effectively roll that out in our classrooms. Among many valuable morsels of wisdom, she taught “Designing for Depth {as} a Framework for Purposeful Differentiation.” She encouraged us to reflect on our Core Beliefs by filling in the following blank: “I believe every learner deserves an opportunity to ______.” She shared that by defining her personal core beliefs as a teacher, she was able to feel fulfillment and live up to her own expectations. She modeled this as follows:

“I believe every learner deserves an opportunity to:

·      experience new learning every single day.

·      learn from productive struggle.

·      learn by doing.

·      share their work.

·      pursue their passion and purpose during the school day.”
